Why Should I Start Juicing?

Juicing is a process where you extract the juices from fresh fruits and vegetables. It typically strips away the solids (seeds and pulp) from them that contain most of its fiber. With juicing, you are able to mix different fruits and vegetable combinations that will aid in different health benefits. For example, a green juice typically contains kale, green apples, cucumber, and lemon. This juice is known for detoxing as cucumber is healing and hydrating while lemon aids in boosting your digestive system just to name a few.

Benefits of Juicing

Fruits and vegetables are what our body needs and is good for you, no one could disagree on the matter. According to Healthline, “The 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, suggest that we eat 2 cups of fruit and 2 1/2 cups of vegetables every day.” With that in mind, consuming at these levels of fresh produce may help reduce many health risks. The perks of juicing are that it’s an easier way to get more fruits and vegetables into your daily diets.

What is Gut Microbiome?

Your body holds millions of bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Crazy right? They are better known as microorganisms or for short, microbiomes. According to Healthline, “While some bacteria are associated with disease, others are actually extremely important for your immune system, heart, weight and many other aspects of health.” Did you know, “The gut microbiome affects the body from birth and throughout life by controlling the digestion of food, immune system, central nervous system, and other bodily processes?” Ways to improve and support your gut health are by eating a wide variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and fermented foods. A balanced diet sounds easy to us!

Types of Juicing Methods

  • Centrifugal: These juicers grind fruits and vegetables into pulp through a high-speed spinning action with a cutting blade. The spinning also separates the juice from the solids.
  • Cold-press: Also called masticating juicers, these crush and press fruits and vegetables much more slowly to obtain as much juice as possible.

Juicing vs. Blending

smoothies vs juicing

According to Healthline, juicing is more concentrated in the number of vitamins and nutrients you intake. It is much easier for your body to absorb nutrients. Keep in mind, it may lack fiber due to the juicing process removing the fibrous parts that are essential to your digestion health and controlling blood sugar.

While, on the other hand, blending fruits and vegetables they are able to retain their fiber for healthy digestion. The fibrous parts of fruits and vegetables are where you will get filled up and contain the most antioxidants. Do you hear a smoothie post coming soon?
